An ultrasound scan pelvis looks at the organs in the pelvic area between your abdomen and legs. It may also look at the lower abdomen. The pelvic organs include:

• Urinary Bladder, which holds urine.
• Fallopian tubes, which carry eggs between the ovaries and uterus.
• Ovaries are organs that make and store eggs.
• Uterus.
• The vagina is the canal to the uterus.
• To locate an intrauterine device used for birth control.
• To determine the cause of infertility (or to guide during fertility treatment or procedure).
• Ovarian cancer begins in the ovary, one of a pair of reproductive organs. Sometimes does not cause obvious symptoms so it may not be detected until it is progressed. Common symptoms are pressure or pain in the abdomen or pelvis

There are two methods of pelvic Ultrasound scanning:

• Transabdominal: A transducer is placed on the abdomen using the conductive gel
• Transvaginal: A thin transducer is covered with the conducting gel and a latex sheath and is introduced into the vagina.

The type of ultrasound procedure performed depends on the reason for the scan. Only one method may be used, or both methods may be needed to provide the information needed for diagnosis or treatment.There is no special type of care required after a pelvic ultrasound. You may resume your normal diet and activity unless your doctor advises you differently.There are no confirmed adverse effects on patients or instrument operators caused by exposures to ultrasound at the intensity levels used in diagnostic ultrasound.
